LFT is a type of composite material made from a mixture of thermoplastic resins and long glass fibers. Unlike standard reinforced thermoplastics where fiber length is <1mm, in LFT, fiber length is generally >2mm. Current D-LFT processing techniques maintain fiber lengths >5mm, providing significantly better impact performance and fatigue resistance.

The D-LFT Process

Inline compounding for maximum efficiency and material performance.

1. Inline Compounding

PP resin and glass rovings are mixed directly in a twin-screw extruder. This preserves fiber length better than pre-pelletized materials.

2. Plastification & Dosing

The molten charge (log) is extruded and precisely cut by a robot, ready for placement into the mold.

3. Compression Molding

The charge is pressed in a water-cooled SUASE mold. Fast cooling sets the part shape with minimal internal stress.
