LWRT

The Solution for Underbody Systems

LWRT (Lightweight Reinforced Thermoplastic) is a semi-finished composite sheet material consisting of a polypropylene matrix, glass fibers, and air content. When heated, the material "lofts" or expands, increasing its thickness up to 4 times while maintaining low density.

SUASE MOULD provides specialized low-pressure compression molds for LWRT. This technology is essential for manufacturing large-area automotive parts like underbody shields and wheel arch liners, where the combination of stiffness, low weight, and sound absorption is critical.

Acoustic Performance

"The porous core structure of LWRT acts as an excellent sound absorber, significantly reducing road noise entering the vehicle cabin compared to solid plastic shields."

The Molding Process

Low pressure compression to preserve the lofted structure.

1. Material Loading

LWRT sheets are clamped onto a transport frame.

2. IR Heating

Sheets pass through an IR oven. The material expands (lofts) to increase thickness.

3. Low Pressure Molding

The lofted sheet is pressed in a cold mold. Compression is controlled to vary density (hard edges, soft core).

4. Trimming

Final part contour is trimmed using water-jet or ultrasonic cutting.

Mold Capabilities

Designed for large-area parts with variable density control.

LWRT Mold Specs

Mold Material Aluminum (Proto) / Steel P20 (Series)
Cooling Integrated Water Lines
Pinch Off Hardened Steel Inserts (For edge sealing)
Mold Size Up to 3.5m length (Full Underbody)
Cycle Time 45s - 60s

Variable Density

Our molds utilize gap management to create parts with varying densities: highly compressed, rigid mounting points and low-density, acoustic-absorbing central areas.

Aerodynamic Surface

Mold surfaces are textured to optimize airflow under the vehicle, reducing drag coefficient (Cd) and improving fuel efficiency/range.

Durability

Robust construction to withstand the pressures of compressing the fiber matrix and ensuring long tool life even with abrasive glass fibers.

LWRT Applications

Lightweight protection for modern vehicles.

Underbody Shield

Underbody Shields

Full-length aero shields. Protects engine and battery from stones while reducing road noise and drag.

Wheel Arch Liner

Wheel Arch Liners

Outer wheel liners that absorb tire noise and resist water/mud impact.
